About
Victoria Gallacher is a third-year student at Barnard College, where she is pursuing a degree in Human Rights and Political Science. In her studies, Victoria focuses on comparative politics while also investigating the intersection of human rights and technology. This summer, Victoria was an Industry 4.0 Quality Analyst Intern, which allowed her to acquire a deeper understanding of data analytics and software while also having the opportunity to implement her studies and propose an app-based mentorship program to facilitate women’s mentorship and sponsorship to the company’s executives.
Victoria’s interest in politics and human rights began at a young age. She has attended Forum for Young Canadians, where she had the opportunity to engage in electoral simulations and network with Members of Parliament and Senators. She has incorporated her experience and interests by creating an organization to minimize the effects of COVID-19 isolation that affect senior citizens in her hometown St.Thomas, Ontario. Victoria’s organization, Penlink, brought hundreds of cards to retirement homes and countless smiles to faces. She also ran a website and social media accounts to bring awareness to the community about COVID-19 updates, dementia and Alzheimer's awareness, and community members’ personal stories.
Being an active member of her community is important to her as she has been involved as a breakfast attendant at a homeless shelter, campaign team member, camp counselor, and member of Alpha Omicron Pi. Her love of knowledge is persistent, which has allowed her to gain certifications in Digital Marketing, Data Analytics, and more. Gallacher’s background and interest in the intersections of human rights, technology, and communications have created her current passion for inquiring about how technological advancements can aid in the development of human rights and eliminate the spread of misinformation in digital communication. Victoria Gallacher has aspirations to attend law school and continue her path to serve her community.
