What role you will play in our team
The Strathcona Refinery is looking for a laboratory student to work in the Quality Assurance Laboratory. The Laboratory operates 7 days a week with typical hours being 7am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday. Some lab posts begin from 6am to 2:30pm. There will be opportunities to support our weekend rotation depending on training during the term. A large part of your work scope will be to qualify and test manufactured products and support refinery operations at various stages in the refining process.
What you will do
As the successful candidate, you will
- Have the opportunity to manage the workload in your work area and perform daily testing required by the refinery, while working in a supportive environment.
- Be provided with on job training by an experienced employee; this will include test methods, and coaching on daily tasks to ensure your area is operating efficiently.
- Manage workload and conduct laboratory testing per testing protocols and test methods.
- Enter data into lab information system to document results, and communicate those results if necessary.
- Gain hands on experience in an oil and gas lab, within an established Quality Control System.
- Participate in company networking opportunities including the Networking Advisory Program (NAP), which hosts regular informal networking events between early career hires and more experienced employees, and the Women’s Interest Network (WIN), fostering professional growth, personal development and supporting advancement of women at all levels of the company, from trades to senior management.
About you
Skills and Qualifications
- Completion of 1st year in a Chemical Technology Diploma program or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications/ Experience
