Are you interested in the opportunity to work as a Risk Analyst Student at RBC? By applying to this job posting, you will be considered for internship in Market Data of Core Methodology team within Global Risk Analytics group.
What will you do?
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the financial markets, working closely with our data analysts and financial engineers. The intern will be involved in the end-to-end process of handling market data, from initial review to analysis and preparation for use in critical risk models. The key responsibilities include:
- Review Raw Market Data: Assess and validate market data from vendors for accuracy and completeness, identify any anomalies or discrepancies.
- Data Cleaning: Apply data cleansing techniques to remove errors, standardize data formats and ensure consistency across datasets.
- Market Data Analysis: Analyze cleaned data to derive key metrics and trends, assisting in the construction of risk factors and their historical series.
- Documentation: Maintain clear and organized documentation of processes, methodologies, and findings to ensure transparency and facilitate future analysis.
- Collaboration: Work closely with senior analysts and other departments, including risk model developers and risk IT, to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of the market data.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus on quantitative finance, risk management, data science, computer science, mathematics, statistics
- Ability to extract and transform data, perform complex data analysis on large volumes of data and present findings to stakeholders
- Self-motivated individual with a high level of analytical capabilities and attention to details
- Strong programming skills in one or more languages (Python, R)
- Experience or understanding of querying databases (SQL), data visualization tools
- Good command of Excel, VBA programming
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills
- Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure and against tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Nice-to-have
- Proficient in building statistical models with complex and large time series datasets
- Knowledge of design, development, and implementation utilizing current analytics technologies and architecture
- Relational database concepts, MS Office Outlook, Word experience
- Ability to learn and absorb new concepts (in business and in systems) quickly and apply new knowledge

Please note: This posting is for a 4-months Winter 2025 Student placement with a start date of January 2025, and end date of April 2025. In order to be eligible for this 4-months Student position, you must either:
- Be returning back to school after the work term end-date of April 2025 ; or
- If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating in April 2025), you must require the full 4-months work term as a mandatory component to in order to graduate successfully.
