Position Summary
As a 4-month Security Technology Research student you will work directly with an agile, tight-knit team of applied researchers, and help us push the envelope of technologies making systems secure and safe.
BlackBerry’s Advanced Technology Lab conducts industrial research and collaborates with top universities with a mission to bring in cutting-edge techniques for safe and secure systems, and ensure BlackBerry continues to be a leader in the security, safety, and privacy of mobile, connected solutions in business, IoT, and connected and autonomous vehicles.The Advanced Research unit within the Lab explores, researches, assesses, and develops new technologies, frequently in direct cooperation with the Labs’ Data Science team.
The successful candidate will work closely with our staff and contribute directly to one or more of our ongoing research investigations. Assigned work will involve adapting and applying techniques such as machine learning, embedded systems development, security analytics, and information visualization to develop new security and safety technologies for tomorrow's increasing connected and cyberphysical world.

Length of Term: 4 Months
What you will do
Exploring, prototyping, and building new automated techniques for resilient cybersecurity and system response in security- and safety-critical domains
Adapting and developing recent techniques relating to machine learning, data science, information visualization, program analysis, or big data to cybersecurity
Designing and conducting research studies and building experimental data sets
Creating research reports and studying targeted literature and techniques
Participating in SCRUM meetings
Who we are looking for
Currently pursing a Master's or Doctorate degree in the area of Computer Science or Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning, or other highly related domain
Strong analytical skills and passion for technical challenges
Programming experience or cybersecurity experience in threat modeling, threat research, red or blue teaming
Ability to work alone and in a team
Above and beyond
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience in designing and conducting experiments
Strong programmer preferred, ideally with experience outside of coursework in Python, C, or C++, or with embedded systems, mobile application development, or cloud service engineering
Formal training in cybersecurity or safety engineering
