We are seeking an Estimator Intern to join our team!
Position Summary
The Jr. Estimator – Co-op is responsible for providing project drawing take-offs for various projects, providing technical and administrative support to project management teams, entering quantities in estimating template and contact and develop relationships with sub-trades.
Key Responsibilities
- Involved in the solicitation of sub-trades and suppliers regarding bid invitations, pricing, addenda, and tender/bid closings
- Completes project takeoffs providing quantity take-offs for complete project.
- Review and process project plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to assist estimating teams in preparation of bid estimates for projects or tenders,
- Will/may participate in project site visit
- Applies knowledge and skills through the handling of complex problems and shares expertise with the estimating team
- Provides support to the presentation of estimate and project proposals
- Manages all aspects of budgeting and bidding
- Coordination of all department team personnel on estimating related requirements
- Prepares, maintains and updates cost data bases, project folder management and estimating department documents across multiple projects and provides input to the estimating team.
- Interfaces and communicates effectively with other estimating staff and all levels of management.
- Contacts and develops business relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing within estimates
- May perform other related duties as assigned
- Understanding of Multiplex's strategic position and how it relates to estimating.
- Keep up to date with new construction materials, methodologies rules and regulations
Education & Experience
- Professional Membership/Internship in CIQS strongly preferred
- Bachelor Degree or College Degree in a relevant field such as Building, Engineering, Construction, or Quantity Surveying preferred
- Strong computer background including experience with MS Office and related estimating software (Cost X, Bluebeam).
Required Skills
- Knowledge of quantity surveying and estimating techniques as it relates to construction
- Knowledge of construction costs and budgets
- Has developed technical knowledge of modern construction practices, techniques and equipment.
- Must possess excellent problem solving skills
- A general understanding of specifications, construction methods and procedures
- Entry level knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take off procedures, Sub-trade procurement, pricing and bid closing procedures
Work Environment
- May require some on-site visits to project locations with minimal possibility of exposure to hazardous materials
