Canadian National Railway Company (CN) is looking for a highly motivated person to fulfill a full-time (40h/week) Intern, Environmental Affairs position in Toronto, ON from Jan – Aug 2024.
Job Summary
The Intern, Environmental Affairs is responsible for improving environmental performance by augmenting CN’s reliance on technology and automating current environmental processes. The role allows the selected individual to explore the many dimensions of the environmental field, learn and apply different business analysis concepts and use their computer skills to improve CN’s environmental programs. During the internship, the manager provides guidance and expertise throughout to ensure successful implementation of these projects. The incumbent uses their initiative and communication skills and drives for continuous improvement to ensure the project achieves the agreed upon milestones.
Major Responsibilities
- Design Environmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) dashboards in Power BI
- Collaborate with the different program leads on the metrics for their programs and where the data is housed
- Collect the KPIs data from multiple platforms for dashboarding and Power BI
- Support monitoring system performance and identifying operational improvements
- Support moving existing external Power BI dashboard, if applicable, in-house
- Prioritize and plan a roll-out strategy
- Train defined team on the use and maintenance of the dashboard
- Prepare training material to support users in dashboard use and maintenance
- Redesign Environment SharePoint site
- Compare Environmental site to other SharePoint sites to identify best practices and opportunities for improvement
- Complete stakeholder analysis to determine user needs
- Participate in data collection, analysis, and interpretation to aid in project development, performance evaluation, and regulatory compliance
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal teams and clients
- Engage in cross-functional teamwork, sharing insights, and proposing innovative solutions to address challenges
- Adhere to safety protocols, company policies, and industry standards throughout the internship
- Stay informed about advancements in the field and recommend strategies for continuous process improvement
- Support the identification and implementation of best practices in wastewater, stormwater, and environmental processes
Requirements
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Looks for opportunities for continuous improvement and takes initiative
- Strong academic foundation with a genuine interest in sustainable solutions and wastewater management
- Proficiency in analytical thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to approach challenges creatively
- Adaptability to a fast-paced environment and capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively
- Initiative and eagerness to learn from industry professionals and contribute to projects
- Experience through internships or coursework related to the field*
- Knowledge of SharePoint, Power BI, Tableau*
- Knowledge of Enablon, Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP) and ENFOS*
- Fluently bilingual, written and verbal (English, French)*
Education
- Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Information and Technology Management, Business Technology Management, or Environmental Management
*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
