What you’ll do
Reporting to the Intellectual Property Manager and working as part of a cross-functional team, the Data Privacy and Compliance Intern is responsible for developing, implementing, and auditing a privacy and cybersecurity framework implementation. The successful candidate is a versatile writer with experience writing for a variety of audiences, creating clear policies, procedures and training documents.
This includes:
- Develop and maintain company’s privacy and cybersecurity framework documentation
- Work with internal stewards to learn the workings of the Orpyx product and data flow and future product changes
- Plan, research, write and edit policy documents to be produced to meet compliance standards as well as to reflect existing Orpyx corporate processes
- Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the environment and the documentation requirements
- Produce training programs and documentation for the internal stewards
- Perform internal audit(s) of the produced documentation framework
- Write clear and concise policies, procedures, and training documents following the company’s brand guidelines
- Maintain a clean, and safe working environment
- Perform duties in a manner that is consistent with and committed to upholding the requirements of the quality management system
Additionally, due to the ever-changing and sometimes chaotic environment of an early-stage high-tech company, the Data Privacy and Compliance Intern may assume additional responsibilities, as required.
What you’ll bring
- Student in Engineering, IT, Communications, Business or equivalent combination of education and experience, required;
- Ability to observe, listen and question for technical understanding, while guiding stakeholders to create meaningful and useful policies
- Ability to analyze and synthesize large quantities of information into meaningful guidance documents
- Great attention to detail with excellent organizational and coordination abilities, required;
- Effective technical writing and verbal communication skills, required;
- Fluent in English, required
- Ability to manage multiple writing assignments simultaneously
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to respond with the flexibility to changing priorities
- Ability to function in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
- Must be computer-savvy and well-versed in document editing software (ie. Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
- Ability and experience in working effectively with teams but also independently or with minimal supervision, and is highly motivated
- Solid research, writing, and critical thinking skills
- Industry related experience, preferably in sensor-embedded technology, asset
- Experience cultivating relationships across company departments, asset
- Knowledge of SOC2 compliance documentation, asset
- Experience in policy drafting, asset
- Experience in auditing, asset
- Knowledge of North American personal information, personal health information, privacy laws and regulations, asset
- Experience in governance risk and cybersecurity compliance terms, asset
The details
Employment Status: Temporary full-time, 4-month term
Schedule:40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Occasional overtime may be required.
Work Location: Calgary, Alberta. Please note that this position is required to work onsite at our Head Office located at Suite 205, 1240 – 20th Avenue S.E.”
