Job Description
The Expedition FOOD SERVICE INTERN will aid in the development of our Expedition
Food Service to expand and grow our commercial market potential as a supplier to
Outdoor Expedition Companies , Outdoor Education and Recreation Organizations both
private and non-profit.
The INTERN under the direction of Owner/Director will assist in commercialization of
wilderness expedition and outdoor food supply by following our existing processes and
products while identifying areas for improving processes and developing new products.
This position is intended to grow the operation for export of food supply to operators
across Canada and the US. This role will lead to the potential to assume production and
operational responsibility for our commercial kitchen. The potential for a successful
internship is to succeed in the role of Food Service Manager.
Additionally, the intern will develop interpersonal skills to ensure that MHO’s commercial
accounts are satisfied with their Food Service experience, learn to develop and engage
new commercial clients and eventually oversee the management of the department and
all aspects of the Food Service Business to ensure that it is profitable.
The intern will be supported and supervised in daily operations of the commercial kitchen
and assist in the development of meal plans, new products and innovation of processes.
Main responsibilities include:
● Provide excellent customer service and professional communication at all
times with clients, suppliers, visitors, and employees.
● Prepare and serve meals for course participants and staff (up to 30 people)
● Expedition Food Service (planning, purchasing, preparing, packing and
deliveries)
● Pilot and demonstrate projects within a R & D initiative to assist in
commercialization
● Improvement of products, processes, systems or services that can increase
business productivity, competitiveness, efficiency, growth and profitability
● Commercialization of intellectual property
● Cleaning and maintaining equipment
● Ensure all Food Safety regulations are strictly adhered to at all times.
● Effectively utilizing maturity and role modeling, facilitate positive peer
interactions, foster and promote a cooperative working environment,
maximizing productivity and employee morale.
● Contribute to a high performance culture in the kitchen and the business as a
whole.
● Other tasks as appropriate
Ideally this person will be hired on full time at the end of the 12 month internship to
continue in the role of Food Service Manager, overseeing the entire department and
managing a small team of kitchen staff

This position is being partially funded by Northeastern Ontario Youth Internship Program
(NEOYIP). Youth Interns must be currently unemployed or underemployed, reside in North
Eastern Ontario, be under the age of 30 and have graduated with a degree, diploma or
certificate from a post-secondary institution within the last three years (proof will be
required)
