We have an exciting opportunity for a co-op/summer student to join the Engineering department. The successful candidate will work in a supportive team with the opportunity to attain a broad range of engineering experience including development, utilities, and transportation. With Delta being issued a Housing Target Order by the provincial government mandating the addition of 3,607 net new housing units within five years, your input and dedication will help advance exciting upcoming development projects in the community including Delta’s Neighbourhood Servicing Plans project.
Under the direct supervision of the Engineering Services Manager, you will be responsible for the following assignments:
- Assisting with reviewing engineering drawings, reports, and analyses, identifying impacts to the community, and providing feedback to your superior;
- Researching and drafting Bylaw amendments to support future growth;
- Updating, testing, and improving the functionality of a development tracker dashboard;
- Updating a master cost estimate spreadsheet for municipal infrastructure;
- Updating and organizing checklists, reference folders, and FAQ’s related to engineering infrastructure;
- Arranging site tours, attending Public Information Meetings, and performing a variety of inspections and tasks when needed; and,
- Reviewing traffic management plans and processing applicable permits.
Desirable Training And Experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong customer service skills;
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
- Experience with AutoCAD would be an asset; and,
- Ability to work independently with guided supervision.
Required Licences
- A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.
Preference will be given to applicants currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with a focus on civil engineering studies. Previous experience related to development, transportation, construction, utilities and/or municipal engineering services would be an asset.
